Intrepid Trib Reporter in Augusta
The Chicago Tribune’s very own Ed Sherman is an Augusta this week so, once again, I’m going to give you the link to his blog so you can follow the action. Hopefully he posts daily.
This week is like the NCAA tournament, Super Bowl, and BCS Championship all rolled into one. Each of those individually pale in comparison, but taken collectively, they may be able to dig up enough excitement to match the four day event that is the Masters. There is no sporting event that consistently turns in the drama that the Masters does. It’s simply the best, period!
For Chicago golf fans, this is the only major championship that occurs during invariably poor weather. I’m happy that April is here, but I think we’re going to be in the 40s this weekend. Great for watching golf. I always find it difficult to watch the US Open (June), British Open (July), and PGA Championship (August) because I would rather be playing. That 100+ day period from June to mid-September is mostly DVR territory for golf viewing as far as I’m concerned.
This year is extra-special also because it is the first year that I’m going to be able to watch it in HD. Golf in HD is great, but Augusta in HD makes it even better.
Clear the decks, here is the TV Schedule.

Do they call you the Golfcaster because you cast the club at the top of the downswing? I suppose then they would be calling me the Golfshanker.
Anyway, I too am all about the HD golf watching. CBS goes to the premium cameras for all views on the Masters; unlike NBC that gives you the occasional fuzzy camera with a 16:9 aspect. What blows for me is that I have to be at my mom’s house for Easter dinner and it’s a low-def household and all the DVR-ing in the world isn’t gonna matter when they’ve got it blaring on a dinosaur CRT at 420p.

I cock my wrists earlier now and really have those hands leading the downswing. No casting here.
And please, you and my buddy Zu need to stop with the self-deprecation, it is becoming somewhat disingenuous and will not result in any deviation from stroke allocations based on strict USGA handicaps.
I too have to be at a friends house for Easter but am going to try and make a getaway to watch the back nine in the comforts of my own home. Using the DVR and trying to keep myself from knowing the ending is not an option. It never works!

I can not beleive it!!!! I have all of the information sitting on the kitchen island to get HD from Direct TV and I absolutely forgot about the Masters!!!
I have already thrown down with my wife the fact that I will NOT sit in her sisters house why some louse freaking switches back and forth from the Masters and some NBA game or neckcar.
Now just explaining to my kids why Dad will be spendnig Easter at home alone.
